MetCredit Promotes Jojo Staples to Director of Estate Recovery

Press Release  |  3 min read

Edmonton, AB — MetCredit, Canada’s top-performing commercial and consumer debt collection agency, is pleased to announce the promotion of Jojo Staples to Director of Estate Recovery, recognizing nearly three decades of leadership and expertise in one of the most specialized areas of the collections industry.

Staples has spent approximately 25 years at MetCredit helping build the company’s Estate Recovery division into one of the most respected teams in Canada. Once a department of one, the practice she helped shape has grown into a national team of specialists dedicated to resolving complex estate matters with professionalism, diplomacy and compassion.

Estate collections require a particularly thoughtful approach. Executors, families and legal professionals are often navigating difficult personal circumstances while also managing complex legal and financial responsibilities. MetCredit’s approach emphasizes respect, ethical practices and solution-oriented recovery — principles that have guided Staples throughout her career.

“Jojo has been with us for about 25 years and helped build the department to what it is today,” said Kathy Summerfelt, MetCredit’s Chief People Officer. “She started as a very successful estate collector and became an estate practitioner. Today she’ll be responsible for the entire department of collectors and administrators across Canada.”

Summerfelt added that Staples’ unique mix of intelligence, empathy and determination has made her an exceptional leader.

“She is smart and never wants to stop learning, either formally or informally,” said Summerfelt. “Jojo is ambitious, but she also has the ability to carefully analyze a situation and act accordingly. She’s empathetic, and that shows in her daily work. She takes on every challenge with the same level of commitment and works toward a positive outcome.”

In her new role, Staples will oversee MetCredit’s estate recovery operations across Canada, working closely with Senior Vice President Lorne Smith to guide strategy, training and client relationships in this highly specialized practice.

Staples’ path into estate recovery began during her early studies in criminology, when she discovered that estate law offered a more meaningful way to apply her skills.

“At the time, a position opened in the estate department during my training,” said Staples. “I immediately saw the potential in this area and began forming a plan for how I could grow personally and professionally while helping develop the department. I realized I could use tact and diplomacy to help people navigate the estate system.”

Over the years, she has worked closely with clients, executors and solicitors, helping them understand the complexities of estate recovery while reducing stress during an already challenging process.

“I’ve always been proud that our work helps people better understand the estate administration process,” Staples said. “Executors often carry a heavy responsibility, and if we can help them navigate that process more smoothly, it makes a real difference.”

Staples holds a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and a Probate Certification, along with advanced designations in Estates and Trusts, focused on estate planning and trust strategies. She is currently pursuing another professional designation focused on helping executors manage estate administration more effectively.

“You may ask why, after more than 20 years in the field, I’m still studying,” Staples said. “The simple answer is that I love learning. I want to keep up with the times and continue improving the way we serve our clients.”

Fluent in English, French and Spanish, Staples brings a rare combination of legal knowledge, cultural awareness and negotiation skill to her work. These attributes have helped MetCredit to expertly serve estate clients across Canada.

“MetCredit has always felt like more than just a workplace to me,” she said. “It has a strong team culture that truly feels like a family. Over the years, the organization has given me opportunities to grow while developing deeper expertise in the estates space.”
