Credit Management

Jasper, CIC, and the Future of Canadian Credit

Every industry has a few events that really, truly matter.

For Canada’s credit and collections industry, the CIC National Credit Conference has long been one of them.

That’s one of the reasons MetCredit continues to proudly support and sponsor this event year after year.

The 2026 conference at the spectacular Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge June 9 to 12 will once again bring together credit professionals, lenders, collections experts, financial institutions, technology providers, credit bureaus, and many business leaders from across the country for several days of great conversations about where the industry is headed next.

And let me tell you, those conversations matter more than ever right now.

Canadian businesses are dealing with an increasingly complicated credit environment. Payment behaviour is changing big-time. Fraud risks continue to get scarier with the help of AI tools. Economic uncertainty, inflation and trade tensions have many companies protecting liquidity far more aggressively. Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming more important within the space. Regulatory expectations continue to grow and flex in the ever-strengthening winds.

This industry moves insanely fast now.

And events like the CIC conference give professionals a rare opportunity to step out of day-to-day operational pressure, take a few breaths of cool fresh air, and then talk openly about what they’re seeing in the market, what’s working, what isn’t, and where things may be heading.

You can imagine how that kind of information sharing is incredibly valuable.

It is also one of the few places where you’ll see so many parts of the industry together, all in one setting. Major lenders and commercial clients attend. So do organizations like Equifax and TransUnion, along with collection agencies, legal professionals, insolvency specialists, credit managers, and technology providers.

For MetCredit, this has never been a matter of simply showing up with a booth, a selfie stick and a whack of business cards.

It’s about staying deeply connected to the realities Canadian businesses are facing right now, and continuing to build relationships within an industry that plays a major role in the financial health of the broader economy.

We also believe strongly that the Canadian credit industry benefits when experienced professionals continue sharing knowledge openly with one another. That collaboration ultimately helps businesses make better decisions, strengthen receivables practices, and reduce unnecessary risk.

This year, we’re extra excited to once again have our legendary Overdue Advice podcast host, Bryn Griffiths, recording on location throughout the conference for future podcast episodes.

If you’re from Western Canada, you probably know Bryn’s smooth and comforting voice. He has spent decades in Canadian broadcasting, including Oilers games and talk radio roles with major Edmonton stations like 880 CHED and TSN 1260, and has become one of the most familiar and respected voices in Alberta media over the past 30-plus years.

Over the years, Bryn has brought the same conversational, candid interview style to our MetCredit podcast, helping us encourage honest discussions about credit, collections, business risk, fraud, receivables management, and the changing realities facing Canadian companies today.

I’m looking forward to capturing more of those conversations live from Jasper this year.

The CIC National Credit Conference continues to be one of the most important gatherings in Canada for credit professionals who want to stay informed, connected, and ahead of where the industry is going next.

And we’re really proud to continue being a central part of it.

We look forward to seeing many of our clients, partners, and industry colleagues there. If you can’t join us, be sure to catch up on the podcast!
