Presenting Youth Day 2022: Putting Kids First

MetCredit Helps  |  2 min read

When MetCredit became presenting sponsor of SOS Youth Day last year, it brought joy to a lot of people, myself included. After a terrible pandemic, everyone was eager to get out and finally enjoy an event together. Entirely outdoors, it was a safe way to welcome hundreds of kids and teens as well as parents and caregivers. And my team and I were looking forward to rebooting our favourite charitable and community-driven initiative, #MetCreditHelps.

Not even an unprecedented heat dome and thick haze of smoke from hundreds of raging wildfires was going to stop us.

In fact, the event went on to be a phenomenal success, despite those challenging conditions and a bit of late-pandemic jitters. We gave out hundreds of free freezies, plus a mountain of prizes and bags stuffed with toys and safety accessories.

Even better, we premiered the MetCredit Colouring Book, with magnificent artwork by Laurel Hawkswell, one of Canada’s finest cartoonists.

It was such a great success that it called for more. So MetCredit is proud to repeat as presenting sponsor of SOS Youth Day 2022.

This year’s event will be better than ever, with:

  • bouncy castles
  • free food
  • face painting
  • a live DJ
  • special guest appearances
  • lots of big prizes
  • an outdoor movie
  • fireworks and MORE!

As Youth Day Coordinator Kane Blacque says:

“The turnout last year was amazing, and we are anticipating an even bigger turnout this year!

“Having MetCredit as the event’s Presenting Sponsor again allows SOS Safety Magazine to continue with Youth Day Edmonton and everything it has to offer, free of charge to everyone who attends. Without MetCredit, Youth Day Edmonton would not be possible.”

The MetCredit team has been working for months to prepare the free swag and prizes for this year’s event and we’re super excited to see things come together again. (Yes, the MetCredit colouring book will be back too!)

What’s more, Castle Downs Park is currently undergoing a major renovation including playground resurfacing, and SOS Youth Day will be the first event to invite guests to the upgraded facility.

The event itself is in fact just one part of our purpose in sponsoring SOS Safety Magazine.

“MetCredit’s generosity and compassion allows us to publish SOS Safety Magazine on a quarterly basis,” says Kane, “and to distribute our publication to schools, homes, RCMP detachments, Indigenous communities, health centres, and youth programs all over Canada—free of charge.”

Come join the MetCredit team at SOS Youth Day 2022. It’s time to celebrate our youth and have fun together!
