PRIVACY POLICY
Metropolitan is conversant and compliant with all legislation concerning privacy, and adheres to the Canadian Standards Association Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information.
Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, which includes factual or subjective information, recorded or not, in any form, as well as sensitive personal information.
Metropolitan employees conduct all aspects of business in accordance with the following Privacy Code standards:
1. Accountability for Personal Information
Metropolitan is responsible for the personal information in its possession, and has a designated Privacy Commissioner who is accountable for the protection of the personal information.
2. Identifying Purposes for the Collection of Personal Information
Metropolitan will identify the purposes for which any personal information is collected at or before the time the personal information is collected.
3. Consent for the Collection, Use or Disclosure of Personal Information
Metropolitan will make a reasonable effort to ensure that the individual is advised of the purposes for which information will be used.
4. Limiting Collection of Personal Information
Metropolitan will collect personal information in a fair and lawful means, and will only collect information that is necessary to fulfill the identified purposes.
5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention of Personal
Information
Personal information will not be disclosed to unauthorized third parties or used for purposes other than what it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information that is no longer required to fulfill the identified purposes will be securely destroyed or deleted.
6. Accuracy of Personal Information
Personal information will be as accurate, complete and as up-to–date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.
7. Safeguards to Protect Personal Information
Metropolitan has secure safeguards in place, appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information, to protect it from loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying or use.
8. Openness About Metropolitan’s Personal Information Policies and Practices
Metropolitan
will provide inquiring individuals with the name and contact information of its Privacy Commissioner, as well as specific information about its policies and procedures relating to the management of personal information.
9. Individual Access to Personal Information
Upon request an individual will be informed of the existence,
use and disclosure of his or her personal information and be given access to that information, except in
unallowable circumstances which will be stated. Also, an individual can challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.
10. Challenging Compliance
An individual can address a concern regarding compliance with the above principles by contacting the Privacy Commissioner.
